On April 27-29, 2012; the
Municipality of Sta. Cruz will celebrate Pista sa Kinaiyahan, an annual event
created to raise awareness on environmental conservation and protection and
promote eco-adventure tourism through series of activities in coordination with
the Department of Tourism and Department of Environment and Natural Resources,
Provincial Government of Davao del Sur and many other partner-cooperators.
The Best in Davao Region And Its Cities in the Country
This year, Pista sa Kinaiyahan will
have the 2nd International Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge as
a major highlight. It is a 24-hour extreme adventure race from the heart of
Sta. Cruz to the summit of Mt. Apo covering 4 disciplines namely; mountain
biking, trekking, water tubing and road running. Other events are as follows:
1.Tree Growing/Mangrove Growing.
Simultaneous with the Opening Program on April 27 will be a mangrove growing at
Barangay Zone 2 while tree growing will be done at Sitio Colan and Barangay
Tibolo on April 26 and April 28, respectively.
2.Basura Art Exhibit and Basura
Fashion Show. This is an initiative to encourage waste recycling as
mandated under RA 9003. It will be an inter-barangay competition and will be
facilitated by the Municipal Council for Culture and the Arts on April 27.
3.Duaw kay APO Extreme Clean Up
and Climb. This will be an organized clean up climb on April 26-29 via
Sitio Colan and is expected to unload all garbage in Mt. APO summit including
that of Tinikaran campsites.
4.MFSM Basecamp Activities.
While waiting for the clean up participants and boulder face challenge racers
to arrive, a base camp activity will be conducted on April 28-29 to be
spearheaded by the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines and
Mountaineering Federation of Southern Mindanao which includes body painting
contest, climate change forum, mini adventure race and inter-club photo
exhibit.
Since 2001 when the event was
started, it has become very instrumental in leveling up the advocacy to save
and protect Mt. Apo and at the same time luring tourists from all over the
world.

Sta. Cruz are: Tribung Mindanaw Mountaineering Club (TRIMMOC), Local Government
of Sta. Cruz Adventure Club (LOGSAC), Sta. Cruz Active Volunteers for Emergency
and Rescue Services (SAVERS), Astorga Mountaineering and Ecological
Conservation Club (AMECC), Darong Active Rescue Team (DART) and Calumpang
Mountaineering Club (CAMOC).
